Barre - Perfect Ballet Stretching Exercises

The barre or commonly called ballet stretching exercises is the base foundation of the ballet dancing training. As agreed by the ballet dancers the ballet stretching exercises plays a greater role in improving the grace of the dancer also it helps in the correct placement of the body. The barre includes many exercises and each contributes to a greater level in improving the grace and perfection of the ballet dancer.

  • Plies - these are proven to be of greater use for improving the balancing power. These exercises are used for improving the flexibility of the joints, tendons, and muscles of the body. At the barre these are the first exercises that are performed.
  • Tendus - for mastering the arches and for forcing the instep outward these exercises are proven to be of the best use. Tendus gives concentration on the ankles and the feet movement and also in the articulation of these muscles.
  • Degage - is an extension of the tendus. Degage helps for strengthening the toes and the ankle joints and also helps in improving the flexibility. Like tendus, degage also plays a greater role in improving the instep.
  • Frappe - is best for the power of elevation and also works to complement the degage and tendus exercises for strengthening the instep.
  • Rond de Jambe - in this there are two main types of exercises, (i) Rond de jambe en l'air and (ii) Rond de jambe a terre. The first one helps in the loosening the joints of the hips and also in turning the legs outwards. The second one helps in aligning the toes and heels and gives perfect balance.
  • Developpe - these exercises are for conditioning the muscles of the legs, back, and the abdomen. This exercise is proven to be of greater use in improving the capacity of holding one leg in the air and also for maintaining the balance.
  • Fondu - these exercises are found to be of greater use for strengthening the muscles of the leg.
  • Grand battement - the last of the barre, this exercise is usually performed after the ballet stretching exercises. It mainly aims at the alignment of the hips and the legs and also reduces the elevation capacity of the leg. The above listed are proven to be the best ballet stretching exercises and are recommended to do while serious dancing workouts. Most of the people use ballet stretching exercise for keeping themselves in shape. The barre addresses all the important muscles, tendons and joints that are necessary for the dancing. Thus, ballet stretching exercises are the important tools for a better performance and stands as a good foundation for any type of performance.
