Fitness Tips (Home) > Hoodia > Side Effects of Hoodia Side Effects of HoodiaHoodia Gordonii is a natural cactus-like plant that is found largely in the Northern Cape regions of South Africa and Southern Namibia, namely the semi-arid regions of the Kalahari Desert. This is a hearty plant that can survive extreme temperatures and can tolerate a wide range of growing habitats. For many years Hoodia Gordonii has been known as a natural appetite suppressant. It is said that is was originally used by the local tribes in South Africa to help suppress their appetites on long hunting trips. The plant works by fooling the body and brain into believing it is full while still encouraging the metabolism to work correctly and more efficiently. The appetite suppressant properties of the Hoodia Gordonii plant have now been isolated and are now sold in many western countries as a weight loss solution. It has become extremely popular in countries were obesity is a major health problem. While there are little to no side effects associated with this all natural weight loss product, there are some things you should consider before taking Hoodia Gordonii for your weight loss plan. First you should talk with your doctor about Hoodia Gordonii. You should always discuss medications with your doctor before starting even if it is an all natural supplement. While your doctor may not know about or approve Hoodia, they can help you highlight the issues that you can face should Hoodia not work the way it claims or if you have a medical condition that is not advisable while on a supplement such as Hoodia Gordonii. Second there are certain medical conditions that should not be combined with Hoodia Gordonii. If you have any type of medical condition, especially diabetes it is advisable not to take Hoodia Gordonii. You should discuss Hoodia with your doctor and have them discuss the effects of the supplement along with your medical condition. For women who are pregnant Hoodia is not recommended. If you have diabetes, heart problems, anorexia or any other type of eating disorder, blood disorders, blood clotting issues or pregnancy then you should discuss the effects of Hoodia with your doctor before taking the supplement. It is best to take only the pure Hoodia Gordonii supplements rather than a supplement that has been mixed with other ingredients. It is not yet known what the side effects are of Hoodia when mixed with other ingredients. But some additional ingredients can have side effects of their own. If you are going to get a Hoodia supplement with other ingredients be sure you research any side effects associated with the other ingredients before taking the supplement. If you plan on taking a Hoodia Gordonii supplement for a long period of time then you should get periodic blood tests in order to monitor for any deficiency or any related condition. If Hoodia is working for you and you are eating less then you should have a blood test done to make sure you aren't missing any essential vitamins and minerals in your diet. Whether you are taking Hoodia Gordonii or not always remember that it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
